The Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) in Thailand was recognised with the Asia-Pacific Medium Airport of the Year at the Centre for Aviation (CAPA) 2018 Asia Aviation Awards for Excellence, held in Singapore. It excelled among airports with over 10 million annual passengers. It was awarded for being the biggest standout strategically, establishing itself as a leader, and having done the most to advance the progress of the aviation industry.

Besides, Thai Lion Air, a low-cost airline, was named as the CAPA Asia Pacific Low Cost Airline of the Year,  while Johor Bahru Senai Airport was named the Asia Pacific Small Airport of the Year with less than 10 million annual passengers.

The CAPA Aviation Awards for Excellence are regarded as the pre-eminent awards for strategic excellence in the aviation industry. It rewards airlines and airports that are not only successful but have also provided industry leadership in adjusting to a new environment.
