The Malaysian and Singapore governments have announced plans to begin passenger service on the Johor Bahru-Singapore mass rapid transit (MRT) line by end-December 2024. Singapore rail company SMRT Corporation and Malaysia’s metro operator Prasarana Malaysia Berhad will form a JV to implement the project. The MRT link is expected to carry up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction. It will connect the Chagar terminus station (Johor’s Bahru) to Woodlands North terminus (Singapore). It is expected to deploy CT251 train sets comprising four cars with open gangway connections between the cars. Each car has 10 doors, 5 on each side. The interior includes longitudinal seating, with foldable seats for additional standing space.
