The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has signed a deal with Cambodia for an official development assistance (ODA) loan of up to JPY 23.502 billion to develop a new container terminal and enhance the cargo handling capacity at Sihanoukville, the only deep-sea port in the country. The deal aims to enhance the logistics environment in Cambodia and promote trade. The loan will be utilised for dredging, procurement of cargo handling equipment, consulting services and the development of a container terminal, access roads and marine routes. The project will increase the container cargo handling capacity at the port by about 450,000 TEUs to more than one and a half times the current capacity.
