The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) has announ-ced plans to fund the 220 km HSR system connecting three international airports, namely, Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang and U-Tapao, with each other. The project will be developed as a PPP project under the build-operate-transfer model at an estimated cost of THB 224.5 billion. In April 2018, the Thailand government had announced plans to invest up to THB 111.9 billion in the project. The HSR system will include a 21 km line from Phaya Thai station to Don Mueang airport, a 29 km line from Phaya Thai to Suvarnabhumi airport and a 170 km line from Suvarnabhumi airport to U-Tapao airport. Further, the high speed rail system is expected to be operational by 2023.
