The Indonesian government has launched the Jenderal Besar Soedirman airport project in Purbalingga, Central Java. As per the plan, the construction of the airport will be undertaken in two stages. In the first stage, the Ministry of Transportation, in cooperation with state-owned operator Angkasa Pura II, will extend the runway from the present 850 metres to 1,600 metres. In the second stage, the runway will be further widened to 2,500 metres. In addition, the airport’s terminal will span 3,000 square metres with an annual passenger handling capacity of 300,000.
