The Indonesian government has inaugurated the country’s first wind farm in Sulawesi. The Sidrap wind farm is spread across 100 hectares and is the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia. It will produce 75 MW of electricity and provide power supply to around 70,000 households. The electricity produced from the farm will be channelled to the networks of state-owned electricity company PLN and will be distributed to South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi and West Sulawesi. The project was undertaken by UPC Renewables in collaboration with a local firm with a total investment of $150 million. A similar project is being developed in Jeneponto, the construction of which is 80 per cent complete.
