The Saigon Water Corporation (SAWACO) is conducting feasibility studies to implement Japan’s advanced technology in water treatment project. Ho Chi Minh City is conducting research to deploy groundwater treatment technology that is chemical-free and has various advantages.

The city is trying to reduce the exploitation of underground water resources in the future to reduce the negative impact of climate change.

In 2017, SAWACO urged local authorities to develop more reservoirs in the next eight years, which can contain up to 373,000 cubic metres of water for major districts in the city. The capacity of these reservoirs and water tanks is expected to reach 1.2 million cubic metres by 2025, which would account for about 48 per cent of the total water supply in the city.
