The Philippines-based Globe Telecom, in partnership with Huawei, will begin implementing wireless 5G technology in the country from the second quarter of 2019. It is currently upgrading its networks to support the technology. Earlier, Huawei partnered with Globe for a $700 million upgradation programme that began in 2011. In November 2015, the two firms signed a fresh five-year contract, involving the planning and designing of a mobile broadband network, as well as the creation of a mobile innovation centre.
