The Department of Airports (DOA), Thailand, is preparing a 20-year master plan to develop its 28 airports. The DOA has already announced plans of investing THB 34 billion in its airports by 2027, under the first 10-year phase of the plan.

So far, the first phase has been split into two sub phases. The first sub-phase involves expansion of 17 airports at a cost of THB27 billion by 2022. Further, it includes construction of a new passenger terminal at Tak’s Mae Sot airport and expansion of its runway from 1.5 km to 2.1 km. The first subphase also includes construction of the new airport in Betong, Yala, worth THB 1.9 billion, which is expected to be completed in 2020.

The second subphase, to be implemented from 2023 to 2027, involves another eight expansion projects. These include expansions to Lampang and Trang airports, which will enhance their annual passenger handling capacity to 3 million passengers per year.
