Dien Bien province has announced plans to upgrade Dien Bien airport at a cost of VND 3.54 trillion. Of this, VND 2.15 trillion will be invested during 2017-20. The airport will serve more domestic and international flights for civilians and the military and is expected to serve 300,000 passengers and handle 500 tonnes of cargoes per year by 2020.
Further, by 2030, the airport is expected to serve two million passengers and handle 10,000 tonnes of cargo per year. It is expected to link with Da Nang city airport and Tan Son Nhat airport of HCMC and airports in Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand and China.
The upgrade includes various developments for terminals, platforms, administrative areas, non-aviation services, and drainage and electricity systems.
