The construction work for Penang paired road projects will begin in 2019. The three proposed paired roads, being constructed under the Penang Transport Master Plan, will span a total of 20 km. The construction work is expected to be completed within seven years of the start of work. The first package of the project covers the Tanjung Bungah to Teluk Bahang section, the second the Air Itam to the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway (LCE) section and the third the Jalan Pangkor-Gurney drive junction to LCE section.
