The construction of a new international airport in Siem Reap has commenced. It is expected to entail an investment of $1 billion and is scheduled to be completed within two to three years. The project will be undertaken in three phases.

Earlier, in October 2017, the agreement to build the new airport was signed between the Cambodian government and China’s state-run Yunnan Investment Holdings Limited. The agreement gave the Chinese firm the exclusive right to run and manage the airport for a concession period of 55 years under the build-operate-transfer (BOT) model.
