China-based Yunnan Investment Holdings Limited has secured an $880 million contract to construct an airport in Sonikum district under a 55-year build-operate-transfer concession agreement. Once operational, the airport will replace the existing airport at Siem Reap operated by Cambodia Airports.

The Cambodian government has also formed a committee to determine how to compensate the French company that operates the city’s existing airport for prematurely ending its concession licence.
