Chinese developer China Electric Power Equipment and Technology Company Limited (CET), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC), has commenced work on the 230 kV Nabar-Shwebo-Ohntaw power transmission line and associated substation in Myanmar.

The project will provide electricity access to about 516 villages (70,078 households) in Kathar and Shwebo districts. It is part of the One Belt, One Road initiative that focuses on connectivity and cooperation among countries, primarily between China and the rest of Eurasia. The initiative consists of two main components – the land-based Silk Road Economic Belt and ocean-going maritime silk road. Work on the project is scheduled to be completed by 2019.
