Nokia has announced that it has been selected to expand and modernise Cellcard’s 3G and long term evolution (LTE) network to help the operator meet the increasing mobile broadband demand and improve mobile services throughout the country. The company will now deploy 1,500 additional sites to make mobile broadband services available in additional provinces and rural areas. It will also install single radio access network (RAN) technology, to enable Cellcard to host simultaneous 2G/3G/4G operations on a single platform, helping it to protect its previous investments. The operator will also deploy IP edge routers from Nokia’s 7750 Service Router product family to both meet current bandwidth requirements and prepare for service demands arising from the roll-out of technologies including 5G and the internet of things. Nokia initially launched the LTE services in Phnom Penh in 2015 and has subsequently expanded the service to other areas of the country.
