The Cambodian government plans to complete restoration of the western rail line connecting Phnom Penh to Poipet by the end of 2018. The 48 km Poipet-Serey Sophorn section and the 65 km Serey Sophorn-Battambang section of the railway line has already been put into service in April 2018. The government plans to restore the 107 km line from Battambang to Pursat by May, to Bat Deng by July and to Phnom Penh by the end of 2018.
