The Thailand government has approved a project to extend the Purple Line of the Bangkok Metro by 23.6 km from Tao Poon South to Rat Burana. The extension will comprise a 12.6 km underground section with 10 stations and an 11 km elevated section with seven stations. Tenders for the construction works are due to be announced in October 2017. The extension will provide connectivity to the planned extension of the Orange Line at Phan Fa, the under-construction extension of the Blue Line at Wang Burapha, the planned Dark Red Line, and the existing Dark Green/Silom Line at Wong Wian Yai. The project is expected to entail an investment of $3 billion.
