Alstom has secured a Euro 150 million contract from the Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA) to supply 6 six-car Metropolis trains for the extension of the North East Line (NEL) and 11 three-car Metropolis trains for Circle Line Stage 6 (CCL6) of the MRT system in Singapore. The trains will be manufactured in Barcelona and will be equipped with condition monitoring systems to carry out predictive maintenance instead of reactive or time-based maintenance for the trains. Delivery of trains for the NEL extension is expected to begin in 2020 and for CCL6 in 2021. The NEL extension will span 1.6 km from Punggol to Punggol Coast station, covering one station. Passenger services are expected to commence in 2023. CCL Stage 6 will span 4 km from Harbour Front to Marina Bay, covering three stations – Keppel, Cantonment and Prince Edward. Passenger services are expected to commence in 2025.
